Waterparks & Pools

Waterpark and Pool Applications
There’s no place for rotten wood and rusty metal in a waterpark or pool. Using Redwood Plastics pultruded fiberglass materials in place of wood and metal can help slash maintenance costs, reduce downtime and increase the beauty of your facility!
Redwood Plastics pultruded fiberglass structural materials – including structural shapes, grating, stair treads, decking, handrail, ladders and more – are ideal for use in extreme environments like your waterpark and pool.

Benefits of Fiberglass for Waterpark and Pool Applications:
Virtually Maintenance-Free
Will Not Rot
Will Not Corrode From Exposure to Chlorine, Salt, or Other Pool Chemicals
Strong
Lightweight/Easy to Install
Low Maintenance
Slip Resistant
Low Thermal and Electrical Conductivity
Attractive
Available in a Variety of Colors

Fabricated Structures

Redwood Plastics has a substantial capability to fabricate and assemble parts, components, sub-assemblies and entire shop-built structures. The fabrication groups at both the Bristol and Chatfield divisions are supported by registered professional structural engineers experienced in FRP design and AutoCAD detailers who translate requirements into shop drawings.
Typical fabrications include beam, column and plate structures, platforms and deck structures as well as other custom fabrications involving grating and handrail.
Pultruded Grating

Standard Redco DURADEK® and custom Redco DURAGRID® pultruded fiberglass grating are available in a wide variety of bar shapes and spacings to meet your specific needs. As an added safety feature, Redwood Plastics pultruded grating can be ordered with a durable non-skid surface, making it ideal for use in wet environments.

Redwood Plastics Grating Meets Virginia Graeme Baker Act UV Requirements

Redco DURADEK® and DURAGRID® pultruded fiberglass grating, including I-4000 and T-1800 which are typically used in the pool and spa market, have been tested and meet UV requirements mandated by the Virginia Graeme Baker Act (VGBA). The grating is the ideal solution for fabricating VGBA compliant drain systems.
Stork Materials Technology, an independent testing facility, tested Redwood Plastics pultruded grating for tensile strength and impact strength after being subjected to ultraviolet (UV) radiation weathering. The independent testing was performed in accordance with ASTM D638 for tensile testing and ASTM D256 for Izod impact testing.
The testing results indicate Redco DURAGRID® grating has a K factor of 1.02 for AMSE A112.19.8.a – 2008, section 3.2.2.3, which is the testing protocol for grates and grating covering pool drains.
Redwood Plastics grating has been successfully used to fabricate field or replacement drain systems for years because the benefits of Redco DURADEK® and Redco DURAGRID®:
Strength — Redco DURADEK® and Redco DURAGRID® are extremely strong and impact resistant
Low Maintenance — Corrosion resistant fiberglass with molded-in color will outlast aluminum or steel grating with virtually no maintenance, even when submerged under water.
Cost Effective — Redwood Plastics pultruded grating is lightweight and, therefore, easily handled in installation, and cost less to ship than steel grating.
Safety — Redco DURAGRID® grating is low in electrical and thermal conductivity and can have a non-skid grit surface.

Redco STRONGRAIL® and Custom Architectural Handrail and Fencing

Redco STRONGRAIL® and custom architectural fiberglass handrail and fencing systems are strong, attractive and withstand even corrosive salt-water environments with ease. Fiberglass handrail and fencing systems can be made to meet ADA requirements and a variety of colors, pickets and rails can be combined to create a unique fencing system that adds safety and beauty to your property.

Redco STRONGDEK™ Fiberglass Decking
Attractive and slip-resistant STRONGDEK™ was installed adjacent to the pool at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, Alabama in 2003. The deck has weathered Hurricane Dennis, weekly on-deck events and the harsh coastal environment and still remains as attractive and strong as in 2003.

Stair Treads

Redwood Plastics offers a variety of stair treads and stair tread covers to meet the specific requirements of your application. Redco DURADEK® and Redco DURAGRID® pultruded grating stair treads allow water to pass though, as shown at left. DURAGRATE® molded grating stair treads are also available.
